Meet Excentis
Excentis is a center of excellence for telecommunications. This spinoff of Ghent University is built on years of expertise and experience with network technologies. They offer testing and consulting services, specialised products and training for the telecom and ICT industry.
XRA-31: setting a new standard
With XRA-31, Excentis introduced a new way of capturing and analysing network packets between DOCSIS 3.1 cable modems and CMTS'es. Translating the technical knowledge of Excentis into a clear, organized portal was the next step to be handled.
The challenge with XRA was creating an easy to use solution for a very complex and abstract product. We worked closely together with the brilliant people at Excentis to fully comprehend the various usages of their customers. By combining their technical expertise with our user centric approach we were confident we could deliver an accessible end product.
Flexible, stand-alone web portal
The resulting web portal is an Angular web application that accompanies the XRA-31 solution. It’s built on top of the XRA-31 APIs and allows users to configure, execute and evaluate network tests. The application mainly functions as a proxy to fetch the requested data for the frontend and provide structured responses that can be displayed easily. Moreover, it does some recurring work (cronjobs) and accesses the file system for the related functionalities. We used Docker and docker-compose to orchestrate the building and linking process of these components, thus creating a standalone solution including all of its dependencies.

This powerful platform is the result of a collaboration between the client's excellence in network technology and our expertise in visualising the provided features and building the accompanying portal. Since its first launch in 2017, the XRA-31 has been shipped to network providers around the world, allowing them to use a solid new method of testing and optimising their performance metrics and providing better services to their end-users.
